GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Wrestling will have six Pioneers represent the blue and white at the 2026 NCAA DII Championships in South Dakota on Friday (Mar. 13) and Saturday (Mar. 14).
GSU's six grapplers qualified at the NCAA DII Super Region 3 Championships, as
Zachary Parker (133) and
Nick Johnson (197) won individual super region championships with
Ethan Hardy (141),
Gabe Onorato (149),
Jimmie Bailes (157) and
Leo Hess III (165) logging second-place finishes to punch their ticket to Sioux Falls. This year's six qualifiers are the second most in program history, just behind last year's seven qualifiers and eventual four All-Americans.
Parker comes in at (27-12) and sits at the bottom of the 133-pound bracket, currently scheduled to take on second-seeded Jeremiah Echievarria from Gannon, who is (18-2) this season.
At 141 pounds,
Ethan Hardy is (27-5) and was given the No. 8 seed. Hardy will have to await the winner of MSU Moorhead's Pedro Velazques (17-6) and Adams State's Kieran Thompson (20-7).
Returning All-American
Gabe Onorato enters the 149-pound bracket (24-6) and is the No. 6 seed for the Pioneers. The former Drexel transfer will take on Colorado Mesa's Alex Castaneda (17-10) in the opening round.
True freshman standout
Jimmie Bailes became the Pioneers first-ever freshman to qualify for Nationals after finishing the regular season with a (28-10) record. The West Virginia native will take on fourth-seeded Easton Worachex (22-5) of Wisconsin-Parkside Friday morning in the 157-pound class.
Leo Hess III, who joined the team at the mid-year, has wrestled to a (7-3) record at 165 pounds and will take on Pitt-Johnstown's Trent Hoover (22-6) for an opportunity to advance and matchup with seventh-seeded Gabe Bernall (30-4) of Central Missouri.
Former All-American
Nick Johnson cruised his way to another Super Region III Championship and has been dominant at 197 pounds all year long, boasting a (27-1) record. The redshirt junior will be the No. 2 seed and take on King's David Bertrand (30-9) in the opening round.
