BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Glenville State Women's Basketball standouts
Carine Pinkney,
Nwando Okigbo and
Khalia Bryant have earned All-MEC honors, the league announced today. Pinkney earned First Team honors with Okigbo and Bryant earning Second Team.
Pinkney, a senior out of Annapolis, Md., led the Lady Pioneers in scoring (15.3 PPG) and FG% (52%) while shooting the most field goals on the team with 319. The former Salem transfer played a team-high 25.7 MPG and shot 82% from the free throw line with 3.5 RPG, 2.0 APG and 1.9 SPG added to her season averages. Pinkney has scored in double figures 25 of the 27 games this season, including the last 20 contests where she's reached 20+ points six times. The 5-foot guard scored a season-high 31 points on 13-of-17 shooting against Frostburg State and logged 26 points at West Virginia State earlier in the season.
Okigbo, who was the MEC Freshman of the Year last season, earned All-MEC Second Team honors with averages of 11.3 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 1.7 APG, 1.7 SPG and 1.1 BPG. The Anambra, Nigeria product shot 41% from the field and 18 games of double-digit scoring. She also recorded nine double doubles, grabbing a season-high 17 rebounds her last time out against Concord. The 6-foot dynamic guard / forward scored 22 points at West Liberty, which was her most this season, on 50% shooting from the field.
Bryant, a transfer from Kentucky State, anchored the inside for third-year head coach
Emily Stoller this season, averaging 9.5 PPG, 6.5 RPG and 1.3 SPG while shooting 52% from the field in just 17.8 MPG. The Washington, D.C. native reached double figures 12 times and had three doubles with an astounding 26 points and 18 rebounds in a late season pivotal win at Fairmont State. Bryant also had 19 points and 13 rebounds at Charleston earlier in the season.
The Lady Pioneers open MEC Tournament play on Thursday (Mar. 5) against either West Virginia State or West Liberty at 6 p.m. inside WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.
