WHEELING, W.Va. – The Glenville State Softball team allowed just four runs over four games this weekend to secure doubleheader sweeps of West Liberty and Wheeling to improve to (27-11) overall and (14-4) in MEC play. The Pioneers defeated the Hilltoppers, 10-2 and 2-1, on Saturday (Apr. 11) before taking care of the Cardinals on Sunday (Apr. 12), 8-0 and 4-1.
Saturday (Apr. 11)
GSU 10 | West Liberty 2 (5 Inn.)
The Pioneer bats exploded for four runs in the first inning and six in the second stanza, as a three-run home run by
Delaney Warnick busted the game wide open in the top of the 2
nd. West Liberty put two runs on the board in the third inning, however,
AndiJo Howard pitched a strong final two innings to cut the first game of the weekend short, 10-2, in just five innings.

Unlike game one, runs in game two came at a premium. The scoreless tie would finally be broken in the top of the fourth inning when
Emma McLean doubled
Addie Hicks home to give GSU the 1-0 lead. Two innings later,
Alexis Harward singled through the right side to bring Macie Duval home as Glenville State took a two-run advantage. West Liberty used a Pioneer error in the bottom of the 7
th to cut the GSU lead in half, but a strong finish by
Maci Boggess secured the win for the Pioneers, 2-1.
Sunday (Apr. 12)
GSU 8 | Wheeling 0 (5 Inn.)
It was quiet until
Alexis Harward homered in the top of the third inning to put Glenville State on the board first once again, 2-0.

Emma McLean,
Alexis Harward and
Shelby McDaniels all notched an RBI in the fourth inning to extend the GSU advantage to six. Goodman then recorded a two-RBI double in the 5
th inning to put the run-rule into a possibility.
Kylie Burdick shut the door in the fifth inning on the Cardinals and picked up her 13
th win of the 2026 campaign as the Pioneers won, 8-0.

In the closing game, Glenville State was able to score first for the fourth time during the weekend, using a
Hannah Howe RBI double and
Emma McLean RBI single in the 2
nd inning to give GSU a 2-0 advantage.
Emily Nolan's infield RBI single in the third extended the lead, and
Alexis Harward grounded out but brought home
AndiJo Howard to make it 4-0 in the fourth. Wheeling finally got on the board in the 5
th, but GSU's pitching wouldn't allow anymore to notch the weekend sweep and game four victory, 4-1.
