GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Softball team used a no-hitter from
Kylie Burdick and timely hitting to sweep north division leading Fairmont State on Saturday (Apr. 18) before splitting with 30-win Frostburg State on Sunday (Apr. 19). The Pioneers are now (30-12) overall and (17-5) in league play.
Saturday (Apr. 18)
Game One – GSU 4 | Fairmont State 0
Emma McLean opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2
nd with an RBI single that scored
Addie Hicks, and just the next inning
Emily Nolan made it a 2-0 game with a sacrifice fly. The Pioneers continued to give a cushion to
Kylie Burdick when
Hannah Howe (3
rd inning) and
Delaney Warnick (5
th inning) both notched solo home runs. Burdick would see the Falcons threaten her no-hitter in the closing innings, but the senior shut the door on FSU and recorded the first no-no of 2026 for GSU and her second career no-hitter.
Game Two – GSU 3 | Fairmont State 2
After Fairmont State used a few Pioneer miscues to plate two runs in the first inning, the Pioneer bats came alive in the 3
rd stanza when
Shelby McDaniels added to her impressive doubles total with an RBI knock to trim the deficit to one. In the fifth inning, a dramatic finish would ensue for the Pioneers. Following a pitch,
Sara Scoone gambled by sending McDaniels to steal home with two outs and tying the game up before
Hannah Howe gave GSU their first lead of the contest on an RBI single.
Maci Boggess had to fend off a furious comeback attempt from the Falcons to secure the doubleheader sweep of Fairmont State, 3-2.
Sunday (Apr. 19)
Game One – GSU 10 | Frostburg State 8
Glenville State exploded for four runs in the opening inning, using an RBI double from
Hannah Howe, RBI grounder from
Lillian Burns and an error by Frostburg State. The Bobcats chipped into the Pioneers lead in the third, plating three runs. GSU pushed a run across in the bottom of the 4
th on
Shelby McDaniels' RBI single. Two innings later, Frostburg State had a big inning of their own, scoring five runs in the top of the 6
th to go up 8-6.
GSU answered back quickly as
Zailees Seda hit her second home run of the season at a crucial time to tie the game up in the bottom of the sixth. However, the Bobcats were able to fight against the wind with a homer to dead center to retake the advantage, 10-8. An error allowed the tying run to come up to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the 7
th, but a strikeout ended things in favor of FSU, 10-8.
Game Two – GSU 0 | Frostburg State 0
Following a pair of scoreless frames to open the final game of the weekend, the Pioneers were able to muster together some two out magic in the third inning.
Emily Nolan was hit by a pitch before
Hannah Howe hit a towering double that banged off the 200-foot sign in left field to bring Nolan in, and an error by the Bobcats allowed Howe to score all the way from second to give GSU a 2-0 lead. The Bobcats cut the Glenville State lead in half in the sixth inning with an RBI single up the middle, but a strong finish from
Maci Boggess ensured the Pioneers a Sunday split, 2-1.
