GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Glenville State Baseball team used another pair of dominant pitching performances and 17 total hits Sunday (Apr. 26) afternoon to complete the four-game sweep of West Virginia Wesleyan, 6-0, and 6-1. The Pioneers outscored WVWC, 28-1, over the four games and have boosted their win streak to nine with a record of (26-18, 15-11 MEC).
Game One – GSU 6 | WVWC 0
The third inning saw the Pioneer bats come alive, with
Jacob Meadows getting on and using miscues by the Bobcat defense to plate the game's first run.
Ashton Crace,
Luke Sweigart,
Greyson McNeill and
Jetsel Cajigas-Martinez then all notched RBIs as GSU blew the game open, 5-0.
Trent Taylor made pitching seem easy today, as the 6-foot-7 right hander pitched a complete-game shutout with 11 strikeouts and just five baserunners allowed.
Colby Guy put the exclamation point on for the offense in the 5
th inning with his towering blast to right field, which would put the final score at 6-0.
Game Two – GSU 6 | WVWC 1
Just like game one, the Pioneers struck first in the bottom of the third inning. This time,
Adam Bright notched his fifth home run of the season to give the Pioneers an early lead. It looked as if it was going to be the pitchers going back-and-forth, however, that narrative changed in the 5
th inning when the Pioneers used RBIs from
Zach Laurie,
Colby Guy,
Carlos De Jesus and
Luke Sweigart to make it 6-0. Glenville State nearly made history by not giving up a run all series long, but the Bobcats Dylan Neach spoiled the history making with a two out double in the seventh inning before
William Chu closed the door for the Pioneers, 6-1. True freshman
Jacob Gorra pitched a gem, going 5.2 innings with one hit, four walks and six strikeouts to log his first collegiate W on the mound.
