CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Glenville State Baseball team erased an eight-run deficit and stormed back to beat Frostburg State, 11-10, Saturday (May 9) night to advance to the Mountain East Conference Tournament Championship game on Sunday (May 10). It'll be the Pioneers second-ever appearance in the MEC Tournament final.

Frostburg State continued their ramped scoring early in the game, plating two runs in the 1
st inning and six runs in the 2
nd inning. FSU hit two home runs in the second, including a grand slam that broke the game wide open. That wide open feeling drifted away in the 4
th inning when the Pioneer bats came alive and put together five runs on a HBP, RBI single from
Gavin Blair, sac fly from
Luke Sweigart and a two-RBI double by
Colby Guy.
The Bobcats got their lead to four in the following inning with an RBI double, but the Pioneers continued to put pressure on with their offense.
Adam Bright and
Greyson McNeill added RBI singles in the bottom of the 5
th, cutting Frostburg State's advantage to just two at 9-7. The backbreaker for FSU came in the 7
th inning, as McNeill and
Jacob Meadows both had two-RBI singles to tie the game and then take their first lead of the game, 11-9. Frostburg State cut the Pioneer lead in half in the top of the 8
th on a fielder's choice, setting up an electric ninth inning.
Grant Landis, who came out of the bullpen in the eighth, struck out the first batter in the 9
th and forced a grounder on the second batter. Tanner Cunningham put himself in scoring position with a double in the left field gap, however, Landis forced a grounder to second and
Jetsel Cajigas-Martinez vacuumed it up to send the Pioneers to the program's second-ever title game appearance, 11-10.

Eight different Bobcats had a hit with Jackson Schalick leading the way with two hits, a home run and five RBIs. Four other Frostburg State hitters had an RBI in the loss. FSU used five pitchers, with Joey Serafin taking the defeat after surrendering four runs (three earned) on four hits in just 0.1 IP.
Glenville State
Jacob Meadows and
Gavin Blair both had three hits while
Greyson McNeill finished the day with two knocks. Seven different Pioneers recorded an RBI as Meadows, McNeill and Guy all had two RBIs each. Head coach Jimmy Mullins trotted five pitchers out, including
Zach Dellerman, who pitched five innings for the third time in four days, and
Grant Landis, who recorded his first save of the year and made an appearance for the fourth consecutive game, just like Dellerman.
William Chu picked up the win after 2/3 of an inning.

The Pioneers will take on the winner of Charleston / Frostburg State in the MEC Tournament Championship game at 4:30 p.m. inside GoMart Ballpark. The Golden Eagles and Bobcats will play at 1 p.m. prior to the title game.
