Softball Drops NCAA Tournament Opener to Charleston

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The fourth-seeded Glenville State Softball team played the University of Charleston for the third consecutive game and the seventh time this season today (May 14), falling to the fifth-seeded Golden Eagles, 9-6, in the opening round of the Atlantic Regional Tournament. The Pioneers will now move to the loser's bracket of Pod 1.

GSU 6 | Charleston 9
The Golden Eagles blitzed Glenville State in the opening innings, using a grand slam in the top of the 1st and a single from Taylor Hodson to score two in the 2nd. Up 6-0, the Golden Eagles once again fell victim to the hot streak of Delaney Warnick, as the junior hit a home run for the fourth straight game and her seventh in the last eight games to make it 6-2 in the 3rd. The following inning, Shelby McDaniels floated a single up the middle and Warnick walked, trimming the deficit to two.

UC scored a run in the fifth inning on single, however, GSU once again continued to cut into the Golden Eagles advantage with two runs in the 6th on an RBI double from Emily Nolan and an RBI single by Kylee Goodman. Charleston notched two, two-out hits in the 7th to make it 9-6, and were able to fend off Glenville State in the bottom half of the inning to take the win over GSU.
