SALEM, Va. – The Glenville State Softball program made history Wednesday (May 6) evening in the opening round of the Mountain East Conference Softball Tournament, beating West Liberty, 6-2, and securing the program's first-ever 40-win season. The Pioneers now stand at (40-13) overall and move into the winners bracket tomorrow.

Delaney Warnick opened the scoring in the first inning, knocking a single up the middle to bring home
Shelby McDaniels to make it 1-0. In the following inning, the Pioneers plated four runs with Warnick hitting an absolute moonshot to left field and
Alexis Harward picking up an RBI single to extend the advantage to 5-0. The Hilltoppers trimmed the deficit in the fourth inning but
Emily Nolan ripped an RBI single in the bottom half of the stanza to keep the lead at five.
West Liberty made it 6-2 in the fifth, but the Pioneers wouldn't allow the Hilltoppers to get any closer as the blue and white slammed the door in the closing innings.

Sara Simon went 3-for-4 while four other Hilltoppers had a hit and Shelby Harris had the lone RBI. West Liberty went through three pitchers, with Ashlyn Tapman starting and allowing one earned run on three hits in 2.1 innings.
Glenville State
Four Pioneers recorded two hits as
Delaney Warnick led the way, going 2-for-3 with a home run, walk and three RBIs.
Emily Nolan and
Alexis Harward both added two hits and an RBI.
Kylie Burdick went five innings and
Maci Boggess pitched two innings of relief, with Burdick notching her 18
th win of the season.

The Pioneers will take on the north division's No. 1 seed Fairmont State at 12 p.m. tomorrow (May 7). Glenville State swept the Falcons earlier in the season in Glenville.
