Softball Secures First 40-Win Season in Program History, Beats West Liberty to Open MEC Tournament

SALEM, Va. – The Glenville State Softball program made history Wednesday (May 6) evening in the opening round of the Mountain East Conference Softball Tournament, beating West Liberty, 6-2, and securing the program's first-ever 40-win season. The Pioneers now stand at (40-13) overall and move into the winners bracket tomorrow.

GSU 6 | West Liberty 2
Delaney Warnick opened the scoring in the first inning, knocking a single up the middle to bring home Shelby McDaniels to make it 1-0. In the following inning, the Pioneers plated four runs with Warnick hitting an absolute moonshot to left field and Alexis Harward picking up an RBI single to extend the advantage to 5-0. The Hilltoppers trimmed the deficit in the fourth inning but Emily Nolan ripped an RBI single in the bottom half of the stanza to keep the lead at five.

West Liberty made it 6-2 in the fifth, but the Pioneers wouldn't allow the Hilltoppers to get any closer as the blue and white slammed the door in the closing innings.
