Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer baseball team split a double-header with the Golden Eagles of the University of Charleston on the road Saturday afternoon.
In game one GSC tallied eight hits while giving up seven hits to the Golden Eagles however the Pioneers fell 5-3.
UC took the early lead in the first inning scoring two runs and went on to add a score in the third and two runs in the fourth as they held a 5-0 lead.
Glenville State finally scored two runs in the sixth as
Tanner Helms singled to center scoring
Logan Henderson and
Jordan Braniff recorded an RBI single scoring
Logan Henderson as they trailed 5-2.
The Pioneers added another run in the seventh as
John Peloro hit a sac fly to right field as
Bryan Bayliss crossed the plate but GSC dropped game one 5-3.
John Peloro went 1-for-3 with an RBI while
Tanner Helms and
Jordan Braniff also went 1-for-3 and each had an RBI.
Zach Sanford pitched 6.0 innings allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out four batters.
The Pioneers got going in the second game of the day as they took an early led in the third scoring five runs as they led 5-0. GSC then added two more runs in the fourth as
John Peloro hit a single through the left side of the defense as
Kyle Johnston and
Bryan Bayliss scored as the Pioneers led 7-0.
UC got on the scoreboard in the fifth off of a solo homerun. However again GSC answered in the sixth as
Bryan Bayliss scored off of a Golden Eagles error making it 8-1.
The Golden Eagles then scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh as they pulled within four 8-4.
The Pioneers then went on to add two more later runs in the ninth as
Jordan Braniff singled scoring
Zach Bacon and
Zach Sanford as GSC defeated UC 10-4.
Glenville State finished with 11 hits and committed two errors while allowing 10 hits by the Golden Eagles. UC also committed six errors in the loss.
John Peloro went 3-for-5 with two RBI's while
Zach Sanford went 2-for-5 with and RBI and
Zach Bacon finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Jordan Braniff also had a nice game going 2-for-5 with two RBI's and
Logan Henderson also recorded an RBI in the win.
Tanner Helms picked up his fourth win as he pitched 6.1 innings allowing four runs on nine hits and struck out one batter. Â
Glenville State (11-22, 8-12) will travel to Davis & Elkins on Wednesday, April 19
th for a single nine inning game at 6:00 p.m.
