Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Pioneer baseball team split a double-header on Sunday afternoon at the Sue Morris Sports Complex with the Falcons of Notre Dame College.
Glenville State fell behind early 1-0 to Notre Dame in the top of the first in game one.
GSC would have the bases loaded in the bottom of the first however they could not capitalize as they still trailed 1-0.
Both teams went scoreless in the next five innings until the top of the seventh when the Falcons scored one run adding to their lead 2-0.
The Pioneers had a chance in the bottom of the seventh but came up short as they fell 2-0.
Glenville State finished with six hits while Notre Dame finished with five hits.
Jordan Braniff went 2-for-2 while
Bryan Bayliss,
Kyle Johnston,
John Peloro, and
Zach Sanford all had hits.
Tanner Helms pitched all seven innings allowing five hits, two runs, and had four strike outs.
In the second game of the double-header GSC scored two runs in the bottom of the second as
Tanner Helms hit a two run homerun, his second homer of the season, as the Pioneers lead 2-0.
The Pioneers added another run in the third off of a
John Peloro double which scored
Bryan Bayliss making it 3-0.
Notre Dame got on the scoreboard in fourth as they scored a run and later added another run in the fifth as they pulled within one 3-2.
However GSC busted the game open in the sixth inning as they scored five runs as they eventually went on to claim the win, 8-4.
Both teams finished with 11 hits each.
Bryan Bayliss went 2-for-5 with two RBI's and scored two runs and
Tanner Helms went 1-for-4 with two RBI's. Also for GSC
Zach Bacon went 3-for-4 and scored a run.
Zach Sanford picked up the win as he improved to 2-1 on the mound as he pitched 5.0 innings allowing seven hits, two runs, and struck out one batter.
Glenville State (7-16, 4-8) will return to action this Wednesday, April 5
th as they travel to Alderson Broaddus University for a 5:00 p.m. matchup with the Battlers.
