Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Baseball team came away with two much needed extra inning wins over the Concord University Mountain Lions at home on Sunday afternoon.
Concord which came into the contest as the leader in the south division of the MEC would find their selves down big in game one 7-0. However the Mountain Lions scored seven unanswered runs with six runs coming in the sixth inning and one run in the seventh as they tied it up at 7-7 with the Pioneers.
The Mountain Lions then took their first lead of the ballgame in the eighth off of a solo homerun as they led 8-7.
Glenville State later tied it up in the bottom of the eighth as
Isaiah Moss singled to center scoring
Tanner Helms and then later in
Kyle Johnston would win it for GSC with a single to left field as
Jordan Braniff crossed the plate as the Pioneers took game one 9-8.
Glenville State finished with 10 hits while Concord finished with eight hits..
Kyle Johnston led GSC as he went 2-for-3 with two RBI's while
Zach Bacon went 2-for-4 with two RBI's.
Wesley Stauffer picked up his second win of the season allowing one run on one hit.
Game two of the afternoon was also full of excitement as we headed into extra innings again.
The Pioneers and Mountain Lions would be all knotted up at 3-3 after nine. Glenville State however had a scare in the top of the 10
th as Concord had the bases loaded with two outs but GSC pitcher
Tyler McKinsey made a great catch on a line drive up the middle to end the inning.
Then in the bottom of the 10
th Zach Bacon would hit a single to center scoring
Kyle Johnston as GSC won game two 4-3.
Both teams finished with nine hits in the contest.
Zach Bacon went 2-for-5 with the winning RBI while
Isaiah Moss went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Tyler McKinsey got the win on the mound for GSC.
Glenville State (13-23, 10-12) will host Concord again on Monday, April 24
th at the Sue Morris Sports Complex at 1:00 p.m.
