Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer Baseball team dropped two close games this afternoon on the road to the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State.
Glenville State out hit the Yellow Jackets in the first game of the afternoon however fell short 3-1.
The Pioneers managed nine hits while West Virginia State had five hits.
John Peloro put GSC on the scoreboard first in the first inning off of a solo homerun to left field as the Pioneers led 1-0.
West Virginia State took their first lead of the game 2-1 in the bottom of the first off of a two run homer from Trayvis Patterson. The Yellow Jackets then added another run in the second as they defeated the Pioneers 3-1.
John Peloro went 3-for-3 with a homerun while
Zach Sanford went 2-for-3 and
Bryan Bayliss went 2-for-4.
Zach Sanford also pitched the entire game giving up five hits and striking out four batters.
Game two again saw the Pioneer out hit the Yellow Jackets however West Virginia State's Christopher Jordan would hit a walk-off in the bottom of the 10
th inning to defeat Glenville State.
West Virginia State would take an early 2-0 lead as they scored a run in the second inning and a run in the fourth.
Glenville State tied it up in the seventh as
Jordan Braniff reached on a fielder choice which scored
Isaiah Moss and later
Kyle Johnston double to left center scoring
Jordan Braniff.
The Pioneers took their first lead of the game in the eighth as
Logan Henderson homered, his first of the year, making it 3-2.
The Yellow Jackets tied it up in the eighth at 3-3 which sent it to extra innings before West Virginia State would win it by a walk-off in the 10
th inning 4-3.
Kyle Johnston went 2-for-5 with an RBI while
Logan Henderson went 1-for-5 with a homerun.
Tyler McKinsey pitched 2.1 innings allowing two runs on four hits.
Glenville State (15-27, 10-16) will take on the Yellow Jackets in a double-header again tomorrow Sunday, April 30
th at 1:00 p.m.
