Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Pioneer baseball team dropped a double-header on the road Sunday to the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State.
Game one the Pioneers managed seven hits but committed three errors in a 6-5 loss to West Virginia State.
GSC took a 1-0 lead in the fourth as
Hunter Johnson singled to center field scoring
Zach Sanford.
The Yellow Jackets took their first lead of the game in the fourth scoring three runs as they led 3-1.
In the sixth
Logan Henderson hit a sacrifice fly to left field which scored
Zach Sanford as GSC trailed 3-2.
However West Virginia State would respond in the bottom of the sixth scoring three as they led 6-2.
Glenville State scored three late runs in the seventh but came up one run short as they fell 6-5 to the Yellow Jackets.
Jordan Braniff went 3-for-3 while
Kyle Johnston,
John Peloro,
Logan Henderson, and
Hunter Johnson all had an RBI in the game.
Tanner Helms pitched 5.1 innings allowing five runs on five hits and struck out two batters.
In the second game the Pioneers gave up 15 runs on 20 hits as they fell to the Yellow Jackets 15-5.
West Virginia State got off to a great start as they scored 11 runs in the first three innings as they held a commanding 11-2 lead. Glenville State added two runs in the fourth and a run in the fifth but ended up dropping game two 15-5.
The Pioneers finished with 12 hits in the game with
Hunter Johnson going 2-for-3 with an RBI and
Logan Henderson finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Jordan Braniff finished the game with two hits and two RBI's.
On the mound
Wesley Stauffer gave up six runs on six hits.
Glenville State (15-29, 10-18) will return to action on Wednesday, May 3
rd in a non-conference game with the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus at 5:00 p.m.
