Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer baseball team spilt a double-header with the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise on Saturday afternoon at the Sue Morris Sports Complex.
UVa-Wise took an early lead in game one of the day in the top of the second off of a solo homerun from Trevor Nevill as the Cavaliers took a 1-0 lead.
Glenville State then took their first lead in the bottom of the third as
Zach Sanford singled to center scoring
John Peloro and later
Tanner Helms scored as
Zach Sanford stole second base and the last run was scored by
Zach Sanford off of a UVa-Wise error as the Pioneers led 3-1.
The Cavaliers pulled within one in the fifth inning as Josh Haga scored for UVa-Wise with GSC still leading 3-2.
UVa-Wise then went on top in the sixth inning scoring two runs as they went on to win game one over the Pioneers 4-3.
GSC finished with six hits and two errors while UVa-Wise had seven hits and one error.
Zach Sanford went 3-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run while
Bryan Bayliss,
Kyle Johnston, and
John Peloro all had a hit in the game.
Brady Wilkinson pitched 4.2 inning allowing three hits, two runs, and had three strike outs.
Game two again saw the Cavaliers jump out to an early lead as UVa-Wise went up 1-0 over the Pioneers after one inning.
Glenville State responded in the second inning as they took their first lead of the game as
Zach Sanford hit a solo homerun and
Logan Henderson scored on a sacrifice from
Jordan Braniff putting GSC up 2-1.
The Cavaliers then tied it up at 2-2 in the third inning.
The Pioneers however broke the tie in the fourth inning as
Zach Bacon hit a single scoring
Zach Sanford and
Jordan Braniff had another sacrifice scoring
Zach Bacon as GSC led 4-2.
But once again the Cavaliers knotted the game up in the fifth at 4-4.
Zach Sanford would break that tie for the Pioneers in the sixth as he hit a solo homerun, his second of the game, as GSC took a 5-4 lead.
The Pioneers added two more runs in the eighth inning as they went on to win game two 7-4 over the Cavaliers
Zach Sanford had a great game as he went 3-for-4 with two homeruns and two RBI's while
Zach Bacon went 3-for-3 with two RBI's.
Wesley Stauffer pitched 4.0 innings as he allowed one hit and struck out five batters.
Glenville State (8-18, 5-9) will return to action tomorrow Sunday, April 9
th as they host the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise again in a double-header at 1:00 p.m.
