Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer baseball team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday at the Sue Morris Sports Complex as they swept the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan.
GSC got a great pitching performance in game one from senior
Zach Sanford as he gave up just two hits and no runs as the Pioneers shutout the Bobcats 5-0.
Zach Bacon put the Pioneers up 2-0 in the first after hitting a single to left field scoring
Kyle Johnston and
Bryan Bayliss.
GSC added another run in the third as
Zach Sanford hit a sac fly to right scoring
Bryan Bayliss and a run in the fourth as
Tanner Helms hit a sac fly to left as
Isaiah Moss crossed the plate as the Pioneers led 4-0.
Jordan Braniff would add the last run for the Pioneers in the sixth as he singled to right scoring
Logan Henderson as GSC defeated West Virginia Wesleyan 5-0.
Glenville State finished with seven hits and committed one error in the game.
Zach Bacon went 2-for-2 with two RBI's while
Isaiah Moss went 2-for-3.
Zach Sanford pitched the entire contest giving up just two hits and striking out five batters.
Game two saw the Pioneers rack up 12 hits while committing three errors as they beat the Bobcats 5-2.
John Peloro put the Pioneers up early in the first with sac fly scoring
Bryan Bayliss as they led 1-0.
Glenville State added two more runs in the second as they held a 3-0 lead.
Tanner Helms reached on a fielder's choice which scored
Zach Bacon in the fifth as GSC led 4-0. The Pioneers added another late run in the sixth as
Zach Sanford grounded out to first base however
Kyle Johnston crossed the plate as GSC took a 5-0 lead.
West Virginia Wesleyan would add a run in the seventh and a run in the ninth but GSC held on to claim the 5-2 victory.
The Bobcats had seven hits and committed four errors.
Kyle Johnston went 3-for-5 with an RBI while
Logan Henderson went 3-for-3.
John Peloro,
Zach Sanford,
Tanner Helms, and
Tyler Wood all had an RBI in the game.
Art'om Rank picked up the win as he pitched 7.2 innings allowing one run on six hits and struck out five batters.
Glenville State (18-29, 12-18) will travel to West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday, May 7
th for a double-header at 1:00 p.m.
