Buckhannon, W.Va. – In a tightly contested meet the Glenville State Lady Pioneer Acrobatics & Tumbling team edged out the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan College on the road Monday night, 261.100-255.795.
Glenville State (2-0) scored the second highest score in school history against the Bobcats. Their highest score came back in 2016 as they scored 263.275 against Fairmont State.
The Lady Pioneers slightly edged the Bobcats in the compulsory event, 34.95-33.15. Glenville State would take the first three heats from WVWC. GSC won the acro heat 8.85-7.25, pyramid heat 9.80-9.65, and toss heat 9.95-9.80. The Bobcats took the final heat, tumbling, outscoring the Lady Pioneers, 6.45-6.35.
Next up in the acro event saw GSC and WVWC both score a 9.35 in heat one. However, the Bobcats took heat two, 9.40-8.55. Glenville State bounced back and took the third and final heat of the acro event 9.85-9.10 but West Virginia Wesleyan won the event 27.85-27.75.
Glenville State had a clean sweep in the pyramid event. GSC took heat one (inversion) 9.85-9.40, heat two (synchronized) 9.85-9.10, and heat three (open) 9.85-8.60. Glenville State ended up scoring 29.55 to West Virginia Wesleyan's 27.10.
The Lady Pioneers held a slight advantage as they headed into halftime leading the Bobcats, 92.25-88.10.
In the toss event, it was another clean sweep for GSC as they took heat one (salto) 9.25-9.10, heat two (synchronized) 9.50-8.95, and heat three (open) 9.60-9.15 as they ended up winning the event, 28.35-27.20.
The tumbling event saw
Sarah DiSpaltro and
Brianna D'Angelo take the due pass 9.100-8.900. Then in the trio pass
Julia Lindberg,
Jenae Shar, and
Jackie Deary defeated WVWC, 8.500-8.400. The Bobcats took the quard pass 7.350-7.100.
GSC bounced back and took the aerial pass from WVWC, 9.325-8.050. The Bobcats then took the 6 element pass from the Lady Pioneers, 9.025-8.600 but in the last tumbling event, the open pass,
Sarah DiSpaltro scored a 9.425 as she helped GSC win the tumbling event, 52.050-50.675.
In the final event of the evening the, team event, West Virginia Wesleyan slightly outscored Glenville State 89.82-88.45 however the Lady Pioneers would go on to win the meet, 261.100-255.795.
Glenville State (2-0) will host the West Liberty Hilltoppers and the Urbana University Blue Knights in a tri-meet on Sunday, March 3
rd at 2 p.m. from inside the Waco Center.
