AB & NDC for MEC Baseball Week 2

Glenville, W.Va. – GSC Baseball will travel up north to face off against Alderson Broaddus and Notre Dame College for two MEC double-header matchups this weekend.

Glenville State, sitting .500 on the season with a 6-3 overall and 2-2 conference record enter the contest after splitting with both Wheeling and West Liberty in their MEC opening weekend. The Pioneers hold a .331 attack at the plate with 43 total extra base hits. Against the Pioneers, opponents tally a .290 average.

Alderson Broaddus opened their season with MEC action as their non-conference schedule was put on hold against both Wayne State and Shepherd University. Holding a 0-4 record, the Battler's fell to University of Charleston and West Virginia State last weekend. The Battlers are led by Misael Sanchez at the plate with a .500 batting average and Conor McSparran holding a short 1.31 ERA on the mound. This contest will be the first MEC game against Alderson Broaddus.

Notre Dame College enters the matchup with a 4-9 overall and 1-3 conference record. The Falcons dropped a pair of ball games against West Virginia State then split with the University of Charleston in week one of MEC play. Ben Ross at the plate hits .308 picking up 12 hits and one homerun early in the season. Defensively for the Falcons, Hayden Parker holds a 2.45 ERA. The Pioneers fell on the road to NDC in 2019 in their previous meeting.

Pioneer Highlights

John Peloro and Jesse Weathers swept this week's MEC weekly honors. Peloro hit 12-for-22 at the plate with seven of his 11 hits went for extra bases with four doubles and three home runs. He drove in 11 and scored eight times. 

Pitcher of the week Weathers pitched a complete -game shutout in a win over West Liberty. He scattered just five hits with six strikeouts and two walks against the Hilltoppers. 

With 15 hits on the season, Tre'von Smith leads the Pioneers with three doubles, a homerun and 5-for-5 in stolen bases.

Duane Englund also leads the team with Peloro in homeruns with three on the year.

Six Pioneers effectively and efficiently are hitting above .400, John Peloro, Zach Morris, Tre'von Smith, Duane Englund, Mathew Mangum and Ryker Rivera.
