No. 8 Lady Pioneers Continue Their Road Trip Against Pitt-Johnstown

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Women's Basketball team continues their three-game road trip against the Mountain Cats of  Pitt-Johnstown. This Tuesday's matchup is the second meeting between the two schools since they were members of the WVIAC. The Lady Pioneers have been (10-0) in the last ten meetings against UPJ.

A Look at the University of Pitt-Johnstown

Pitt-Johnstown enters Tuesday's clash with a (4-3) overall record and (1-1) in the PSAC. UPJ has faced three MEC opponents this season and has gone (2-1) in those matchups. The Mountain Cats did fall to West Virginia State back in November 86-77.

Mike Drahos enters his tenth season under the helm. While at the Pitt-Johnstown Drahos has posed a record (88-136). During his time at UPJ, he has coached a total of seven All-PSAC West selections. Drahos also has directed the Mountain Cats to four PSAC tournament appearances.

As a team, UPJ ranks around average in the PSAC for points per game producing 65 points per contest. However, Coach Drahos's team allows 69.3 points per game giving them a negative scoring margin this season. The Mountain Cats are also towards the bottom of the conference for team three-point percentage. Pitt-Johnstown through seven games has been one of the better teams in the PSAC getting to the free throw line. On average they attempt 17.4 free throws per game and make 12.2.

Forward Ashley Norling leads the Mountain Cats in scoring this season with 14.1 points per contest. Norling a native of Pittsburgh, Pa. has also been the best rebounder producing 6.3 per game. Junior Olivia Fasick far during the 2022-23 campaign has proven to be UPJ's best distributor accounting for 4.1 assists per contest. Fasick along with Peyton Alazaus round out the Mountain Cats averaging double figures. 

A Look at Your Lady Pioneers 

The Lady Pioneers enter Tuesday's non-conference game with a (7-1) overall record and (5-1) in the MEC. Glenville State is coming off a win over Fairmont State on the road. In the Lady Pioneers' winning effort they were able to hold one of the MEC's best scorers in check. Since GSU's first loss of the season to the University of Charleston, Coach Stephen's squad has won four straight.

Glenville continues to distribute the ball well producing a conference-high 18.4 assists per game. The Lady Pioneers through eight games have had the highest-scoring offense in the country averaging 96 points per game. With GSU forcing 29.5 turnovers per contest Glenville has been able to get out in transition. On average 16.8 of the turnovers forced come from steals which is third in the nation.

Breanna Campbell has been one of the Lady Pioneers' best scorers this season averaging 15.0 points per game. Breanna is also towards the top in rebounds producing and assists for Glenville. Transfer Mickayla Perdue is close behind Campbell averaging 14.6 points per game. Perdue a native of Springfield, Ohio has shot 40% from three during the 2022-23 campaign. Hya Haywood and Mo Pruitt round out the Lady Pioneers averaging double figures. Pruitt during Glenville's winning streak has produced two double-doubles for GSU.
