Wrestling Finishes 3rd in GSU Invitational

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Coach Dylan Cottrell's Nationally ranked Glenville State Wrestling Team hosted the 11-team GSU Invitational Saturday at the Waco Center. In what was the largest college wrestling event in the institution's history, the Pioneers performed well overall as a team.

Saturday's field included several top teams from multiple regions. Participating teams included Ashland, Coker, Davis & Elkins, Emmanuel, Fairmont, Glenville, King, Kutztown, Millersville, Seton Hill, and Wheeling. 

Glenville ended up placing third as a team in the highly competitive field. Millersville captured the team title with 147.5 points, followed by Ashland with 135.5. Glenville was a solid third place with 130. The remaining team places included Kutztown (122), King (105.5), Seton Hill (95.5), Coker and Fairmont (49), Emmanuel (44), Wheeling 37, and Davis & Elkins (6). 

In all, Glenville advanced six wrestlers to the Semifinal Round, with two making it to the Finals. Defending National Champion Gavin Quiocho took the tournament title in the 133-pound division defeating Millersville's Devin Flannery, while Gaetano DeLeonardis lost in the final 6-4 to Millersville's Brandon Conner. 

Other Glenville wrestlers making it into the semifinal round included both Brady Ross and Isaiah Casto at 184, Cade Linn at 174, and veteran Gavin Shamblin in the Heavyweight division. There were also several GSU wrestlers who fought through the Consolation Bracket to pick up some key wins and placement points. This included wrestlers Ethan Hardy and Kolbi Hamilton at 149, Wiley Houser at 157, and Nick Copley and Devan Gauldin at 197.

Glenville State returns to action next Saturday, traveling to Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
