GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State Wrestling will take their No. 10 national ranking to Michigan tomorrow (Nov. 21) in the Laker Duals at Grand Valley State University. The Pioneers are currently scheduled to take on the host Lakers, as well as St. Cloud State and Findlay.
Glenville State is coming off of a busy weekend, where GSU beat Georgetown (Ky.), Davis & Elkins and Bethany at home on Friday night before dropping a pair of duals to Division I opponents, No. 20 West Virginia and Appalachian State. The action-packed weekend made the Pioneers (3-2) on the year, with GSU opening the season with back-to-back weekends of invite / open style tournaments.
Nick Johnson was a man amongst boys last Friday and Sunday, and has been all season for the Pioneers. Johnson went (5-0) last week, including a nationally ranked win. The redshirt junior out of Parkersburg wrestled at both 197 and 285 on Sunday.
The Grand Valley State Lakers come into this week ranked No. 21 by NWCA after opening the season as a top five team in the country. The Lakers have not wrestled in a dual yet this season, as they've sent their grapplers to Michigan State and Findlay for Opens thus far in 2025. GVSU is under the direction of first-year head coach RJ Boudro, but Grand Valley State boasts five nationally ranked wrestlers and four returning All-Americans in their lineup.
The (1-0) Findlay Oilers have been a busy team in the early going, having wrestled three Opens and winning their lone dual of the season against Kentucky Wesleyan, 37-12. Findlay traveled to Glenville on Nov. 1 to compete in the Pioneer Open, which they placed 8
th out of 14 teams. UF features the reigning GMAC Wrestler of the Week in Nate Knowlton, who went (5-0) last weekend in the Findlay Open.
St. Cloud State was a preseason top 10 team and they remain as one of the premiere program's through the first three weeks of the seasons, as the Huskies are the nation's No. 9 squad. St. Cloud State hasn't wrestled in a dual in 2025, but the Huskies have taken four individual championships at both of their opening-season tournaments in Minnesota and Iowa.
