GLENVILLE, W.Va – Glenville State Volleyball battled back to force a fifth set but fell in MEC play to West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday (Nov. 7) night inside the Waco Center, 3-2).
In the first set, the game was highly contested early as it was tied up at 11, and then again at 15, but GSU would score the next three points to force a Bobcat timeout with the score at 18-15. WVWC answered with a run of their own to tie the set at 22 all, however, in the end GSU prevailed, 29-27. In set two, Wesleyan jumped out ahead to force a GSU timeout with the score at 12-7 in favor of the road team, and the Pioneers used their last timeout with the score being 19-12 before the Bobcats closed out the set, 25-14, and tying the match at 1-1.
In the third set, the Pioneers held the lead early at 9-6, but the Bobcats would rally to tie the game at 14 and would take control of the set later on, winning the third stanza, 25-20, and taking the match lead, 2-1. In the fourth set, neither team could gain a substantial lead as the game was tied at nine, and again at 13 as points were being traded until the end, but it would be the Pioneers prevailing in set four, 26-24, forcing a fifth set. In the final stanza, GSU couldn't find their footing early as they fell behind 8-4, and wouldn't be able to mount a comeback, losing the set, 15-12, and the match, 3-2.

Bhrooke Axe had 24 kills to lead the Bobcats and Emily Dennison had 15 while Lacey Guthrie had 31 assists. On defense, Dennison had five blocks and MacKenna Halfin had two while Alexis Moeschler had 23 digs.
Glenville State
Cali Queen led the Pioneer attack with 13 kills with Kaiya Lian adding 12 and Rita Kelly finishing with 10. Elitsa Peneva had 25 assists and Sadie Hill had 23 to round out the offensive stats. Defensively, Keleigh Chrisman and Greta Petofi both had two blocks and Ava O'Hare had 19 digs in the loss.
