Young Pioneers Impress at Ohio Collegiate Open in Cleveland

11/9/2025 10:20:00 PM

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Glenville State Wrestling team had an impressive showing at today's Ohio Collegiate Open on the campus of Case Western Reserve, as three Pioneers won their weight division and 12 total grapplers placed in the top six.

In the open division, four GSU wrestlers placed as Zachary Parker (141) placed 3rd, Ethan Mitchell was 6th (141), Zachary Holstion (184) notched a 4th place nod and Max Borton was 5th in the 184-pound division. The Ohio Collegiate Open provided a freshman / sophomore division as well, which many Pioneers took advantage of, as head Coach Dylan Cottrell hoped they would.

"It's about mat time and trying to get better," said Cottrell on the Pioneer Coaches Show. The young grapplers got mat time, got better and got results. Matthew McAfee won the 133-pound division, Jimmie Bailes captured the 157-pound division and David Pento took 1st in the 165-pound division. Lake Erie College transfer Egidio Difazio placed 3rd at 149 while Bluefield State transfer Moses Eads took 2nd in the 157-pound class and Drexel import Roman Onorato was 4th (157). Freshman Zach Meisenzahl (165, 2nd place) and Percie Hatfield (174, 2nd place) closed out the solid day for Pioneer wrestling.
