CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Glenville State Wrestling team had an impressive showing at today's Ohio Collegiate Open on the campus of Case Western Reserve, as three Pioneers won their weight division and 12 total grapplers placed in the top six.
In the open division, four GSU wrestlers placed as
Zachary Parker (141) placed 3
rd,
Ethan Mitchell was 6
th (141),
Zachary Holstion (184) notched a 4
th place nod and
Max Borton was 5
th in the 184-pound division. The Ohio Collegiate Open provided a freshman / sophomore division as well, which many Pioneers took advantage of, as head Coach
Dylan Cottrell hoped they would.
"It's about mat time and trying to get better," said Cottrell on the
Pioneer Coaches Show. The young grapplers got mat time, got better and got results.
Matthew McAfee won the 133-pound division,
Jimmie Bailes captured the 157-pound division and
David Pento took 1
st in the 165-pound division. Lake Erie College transfer
Egidio Difazio placed 3
rd at 149 while Bluefield State transfer
Moses Eads took 2
nd in the 157-pound class and Drexel import
Roman Onorato was 4
th (157). Freshman
Zach Meisenzahl (165, 2
nd place) and
Percie Hatfield (174, 2
nd place) closed out the solid day for Pioneer wrestling.

The Pioneers are home on Friday (Nov. 14) for their first head-to-head matchups of the 2025-26 season. Glenville State will host Davis & Elkins, Georgetown (Ky.) and Bethany in a quad at 12 p.m. inside the Waco Center.
