Dylan Cottrell Three-Peats as MEC Coach of the Year

4/9/2025 1:00:00 PM

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – For the third consecutive season, Glenville State Wrestling Head Coach Dylan Cottrell has been named the Mountain East Conference Coach of the Year, the league announced.

Cottrell, who just completed his fifth season at the helm, shared the award with Fairmont State's Gennaro Bonaventura in 2023 but has since solely won the award in 2024 and now, 2025.

The former West Virginia Mountaineer has enjoyed plenty of success off the mat like he did while he was on the mat, as the West Virginia native was WVU's first Big 12 champion and a three-time NCAA qualifier during his college years. The once decorated wrestler has turned into a decorated coach at the Division II level, bringing the Pioneers to new heights once again in 2024-25.

Cottrell was awarded MEC Coach of the Year after leading GSU to:
- Second-consecutive MEC Championship
- First-ever NCAA DII Super Region 3 Championship
- Six individual MEC Champions
- Two individual Super Region 3 Champions
- Seven National Qualifiers
- Four All-Americans
- Reached as high as No. 2 in the NWCA National Team Rankings

Cottrell and the GSU Wrestling program have already turned their attention to the 2025-26 season with high school signings and transfers to go along with three All-Americans and Super Region 3 Champion Hayden Pummel returning.
