GLENVILLE, W.Va. – 10
th ranked Glenville State Wrestling will take on No. 4 Gannon on Sunday (Jan. 4) in a battle of two top 10 nationally ranked teams in Erie, Pa.
Gannon made the trip to Glenville last season, where the Pioneers edged the Golden Knights, 22-21, inside the Waco Center. GU is off to a good start in 2025-26, holding a (3-1) overall record with a first-place finish at the Mount Union Invitational (14 teams) and Ohio Collegiate Open (25 teams). Gannon's lone dual loss of the season came before the holiday break at Edinboro, 46-4. The Golden Knights feature six nationally ranked grapplers, including four in the top five. Jerry Echevarria is the highest rated Golden Knight at No. 3 in NWCA's rankings.
It's been three weeks since the Pioneers were on the mat, as GSU last wrestled at the University of Indianapolis' Midwest Classic.
Ethan Hardy (141) and
Nick Johnson (197) won individual championships while
Colton Drousias (125) placed 8
th. Glenville State enters 2026 with a (7-4) overall record and two wins over nationally ranked opponents, as two losses have come to top 10 teams and their other two came against Division I opponents.
Wrestling will begin at 5 p.m. inside the Recreation and Wellness Center and the match is scheduled to be streaming on the PSAC Digital Network.
