Preview: Wrestling to Defend MEC Championship at Home Saturday

1/30/2026 5:30:00 PM

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Nationally ranked Glenville State Wrestling will host the school's first-ever wrestling championship tomorrow (Jan. 31) as the 2026 Mountain East Conference Wrestling Championship will be inside the Waco Center.

The ninth-ranked Pioneers are the two-time defending MEC champions after dethroning perennial power West Liberty in 2024. Glenville State comes in with four nationally ranked grapplers with the rest of the league featuring four ranked in the national rankings.

Head coach Dylan Cottrell is missing a pair of key starters in Hayden Pummel and Gabe Onorato, but depth has been a strong suit for the sixth-year leader. The Pioneers will trot out:
125 – Colton Drousias (No. 9 nationally)
133 – Zachary Parker
141 – Ethan Hardy (No. 1 nationally)
149 – Moses Eads
157 – Jimmie Bailes
165 – Connor Holm
174 – Ethan Lopez
184 – Max Borton
197 – Nick Johnson (No. 2 nationally)
285 – Colby Whitehill (No. 8 nationally)

The Pioneers will be competing with Davis & Elkins, Fairmont State, Frostburg State, Point Park, Salem, West Liberty and Wheeling with action set to begin at 10 a.m. on the Mountain East Conference Digital Network.

Tickets can be purchased HERE with the MEC Tournament Central page found HERE.
