Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer baseball team dropped a double-header on Saturday as they fell to Lenoir Rhyne in their season opener.
In game one Glenville State would have their bats swinging as they held an 8-6 lead over Lenoir Rhyne in the sixth inning.
The Pioneers would add another run in the seventh as they led 9-6 however Lenoir Rhyne had a big seventh inning as they scored seven runs and went on to claim the victory over GSC 14-9.
Glenville State had 12 hits in the ball game while Lenoir Rhyne finished with 13 hits.
Tanner Helms went 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs and an RBI while
John Peloro went 2-for-3 with two RBI's.
Zach Sanford pitched 4.0 innings in game one allowing seven hits, six runs, and had two strike outs.
In the second game of the day Lenoir Rhyne got on the board first in the bottom of the first as they took a 4-0 lead. The Pioneers would answer back scoring three runs in the second inning as they trailed 4-3.
However after that the Pioneers would struggle as they only scored one more run in the game as they fell in game two 11-4.
Glenville State had just two hits and one error while Lenoir Rhyne finished with nine hits and two errors.
Logan Henderson went 1-for-4 with two RBI's and scored a run while
Tanner Helms went 1-for-4 and an RBI.
Art'om Rank pitched 4.0 innings giving up four runs, six hits, and had a strike out.
Glenville State (0-2) will take on Lenoir Rhyne again today starting at 1:00 p.m.
