GLENVILLE – It will be "MEC Monday" at the Waco Center
on Monday night, as league rivals Charleston and Glenville are set to battle for the NCAA Women's Basketball Atlantic Regional Championship. It will be the fourth time the two teams have met this year, with Monday's winner punching a ticket to next week's Elite Eight in Birmingham, Alabama.
Coach
Kim Stephens' Glenville squad and Coach Tianni Kelly's Charleston squad have actually met a total six times over the past 14 months, splitting these games 3-3. This season, Glenville has taken two of the three contests.
Glenville enters the contest with a 31-1 mark, and a resume that includes a seven-week stint as the nation's #1 team in all of Division II. They rolled through a 27-0 regular season, and ran that mark to 29-0 until their loss to Charleston last week.
GSU has advanced to the title game of the tournament with two victories; a convincing 88-60 win over Lincoln on Friday, and a hard-fought 82-70 win over Shepherd
on Saturday night. The Lady Pioneers are playing in their sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament.
Charleston enters the contest with an overall record of 23-8, but the Golden Eagles have won 11 of their last 12 contests. They are currently riding a six-game winning streak, including the aforementioned 80-77 victory over the previously unbeaten Lady Pioneers in last Sunday's Finals of the MEC Tournament.
UC has advanced to the title game with a pair strong victories; a 78-68 win over #3 seed Kutztown on Friday, and a 52-34 handling of California (PA) on Saturday.
This game will also feature six All-MEC performers; First Teamers
Re'Shawna Stone and
Zakiyah Winfield of Glenville, and Markiya McCormick of Charleston. Second Teamers Dakota Reeves of Charleston, and
Taychaun Hubbard of Glenville, and Honorable Mention recognized
Dazha Congleton of Glenville. Stone was named both the MEC and also the Regional Player of the Year.

7:00 on the Waco Center's McPherson Court.
