Glenville, W.Va. - The Lady Pioneers host the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats tomorrow night for the Mountain East Conference home opener. Both squads have met in the non-conference portion of their schedules. The Bobcats defeated the Pioneers 3-1 in the last matchup. Glenville enters the match with an 11-7 record and 0-2 in the MEC.
West Virginia Wesleyan enters the contest with a 5-10 record overall and 1-1 in MEC play. Hope Arce-Reed leads bobcats in kills this season with 145 followed by Freshman Mia Bajramovic with 139. Setter Payton Hefner this season has passed a team-leading 293 assists. Defensively the Bobcats are led by Joelle Lalla and Alexis Moeschler. Lalla has produced 38 blocks this season and Moeschler leads West Virginia Wesleyan in digs with 168. Autumn Molenhouse is close behind with 151 digs so far this season. In the Bobcat's previous match, they defeated Concord University 3-2.
The Lady Pioneers are coming off a loss to South Division leaders West Virginia State 3-0. As a team, Glenville leads the country and conference in service aces.
Katarzyna Niderla leads the Pioneers in service aces with 36 which places her first in the conference and fourth in the nation. Teammates Helín Halden and
Julia King are tied eighth in the conference producing 25. Niderla is also Glenville's team leader in kills for the 2022 campaign with 210. King has produced a team-high 293 assists this season followed by Sarah Grainger with 218. Defensively,
Lindsay Winkler,
Katarzyna Niderla, and
Nalaina Funk, have been solid for the Lady Pioneers. Winkler has produced 215 digs this season which is sixth in the MEC. Niderla leads the team in blocks as well with 52 followed by Funk with 48.
