Class of: 1953
Bill Hanlin, a Sistersville native, excelled in football at GSC and later, from 1966-1975, became the college's head football coach. While a student, he was elected as president of the prestigious West Virginia Collegiate Academy of Science and he was awarded GSC's Montrose Award in the fall of 1953. Hanlin began his teaching and coaching career at Tyler County High School, coaching football, basketball, and baseball. He later moved to St. Mary's High School, where his 1963 team went undefeated and unscored upon. Coach Hanlin's nine years as Glenville State's football coach is the longest tenure with the exception of the late Nate Rohrbough. He later moved from Glenville to Parkersburg where he served as Executive Secretary of the WVSSAC from 1985-1988. Hanlin and his wife, Laveta, have a son, Mike, a daughter, Kathy, and one grandchild.
