Hall of Fame
Along with teammate Tex Gainer, Glennard Vannoy was part of two of the most iconic basketball teams in Gilmer County history; the 1945 State Champion team from Normantown High School, and the 1951 WVIAC Tournament Champion team from Glenville State. Vannoy was a standout during the NHS run, being named Captain of the All-State Team in '45, the latter day version of State Player of the Year.
Â
After a stint in the military, Vannoy came to Glenville and was a two-sport star for the Pioneers, playing basketball and baseball. He was the premier power hitter in WVIAC baseball at the mid-point of the century, and went on to a professional baseball career in the minor leagues.
Â
Vannoy spent over three decades as a teacher and coach in the public schools.
