Name: Gordon Eismon, Athlete
Class of: 1934
Gordon Eismon, inducted posthumously, competed in football and baseball at Glenville and served as the football team's captain in 1921. Born in Minnora, Calhoun County, Eismon received a master's degree from WVU in 1941and made his mark as an administrator of high school athletics in West Virginia. A renowned innovator, he helped spark the growth of high school athletics across the State during his tenure as Executive Secretary of the Secondary Schools Activities Commission, a position he held from 1959-1975. Previously, he was employed by Wirt County Schools from 1934-1948 as a teacher/coach and then as that county's Superintendent of Schools before taking the principal's position at Charles Town High School from 1948-1949. Eismon coached the first night football game in West Virginia, was past president of the National Federation of State High School Associations and a Charter Member of the Ohio-West Virginia Officials Association. He was induced to the Mid Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame of Fame a few years ago. Gordon and his wife, Mildred, who is also deceased, had two sons.
