Ed Tekieli is a native of Grant Town, WV and was a four year letterman in football and was the team's leading pass receiver for three years, earning WVIAC All-Conference honors for two consecutive years. He played offensive and defensive end, handled the putting duties, and was captain of the football team his senior year. "Tek" was also a four year starter on the baseball team where he played center field for Coach Carlos Ratliff. He excelled as a consistent defensive player and as one of the baseball team's leading hitters. Additionally Tekieli earned three letters in basketball and was one of the team's best re-bounders and an aggressive defensive player. Due to a football injury, he was unable to play basketball in his senior year. Ed served as Student Council President during his senior year and was a member of Kappa Sigma Kappa Fraternity, Alpha Delta Epsilon, and the G-Club. He was a member of Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities and the fifth recipient of the prestigious Frank Montrose award. Tekieli was drafted into the Army in 1956 where he played all three sports. Following basic training, he was stationed in Orleans, France where he played baseball and basketball and coached basketball. His team won the Com Z Championship in France. Ed received his Masters Degree in Physical Education from West Virginia University where he served as a Graduate Assistant in Football. He received an Administrative Certificate from Kent State University and did additional coursework towards his doctorate. Tekieli coached both high school and college football for 50 years. He was the Head Football Coach at Euclid High School where he also coached baseball and basketball. Ed was an Assistant Coach at Case Western Reserve University for two years. He coached football at Shaker Heights High School for 30 years. Although he retired from his coaching position at the school in 1998, he continued to coach as an assistant football coach for a number of years before retiring fully. Ed received the Greater Cleveland Football Coaches Golden Deeds Award in 2007 and also their Longevity Award. Additionally he received the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association Assistant Coach Award in 1997 while he was coaching at Shaker High School. Tekieli served as the Honorary Coach for the Annual East West Football Game in 2007. Ed met his wife, Delores "Del" while they were teaching at Euclid High School. They were married in 1966 and have three children and seven grandchildren: Ed Jr. and wife Ingrid, Monique Romanick, Nicolas, and Ingrid Christina; Daughter Michele and husband Garret Ferrara and daughters Gianna and Francesca; Daughter Tiffany and husband Frank Phillips and Ginna and Lexi. For more than 13 years, Ed has volunteered weekly at the Hospice of the Western Reserve. He is also a member of the American Legion and was a member of the Euclid Optimists Club. The Tekielis have a home in Euclid, OH (Cleveland suburb) and a condo in Pembroke Pines, FL, where they spend the winter months.
