Name: Earl "Big Lennie" Spencer, Athlete
Class of: 1952
Earl "Big Lennie" Spencer, a native of Richwood, played football one year and lettered in basketball all four years of his college career. He was one of the early 1000 point scorers for the Pioneers, competing for the legendary Coach Nate Rohrbough. "Lennie" would have graduated in 1943 but was called to serve his country during World War II. After the war and a tour of duty in Korea, he took a six month leave from the Air Force in 1952 and completed the twelve hours at GSC that he needed to obtain his degree. His military career included another tour of combat in Korea and a combat tour in Vietnam. He retired as Colonel in 1973. "Lennie" and his wife, Carolyn, are parents of three sons, Steve, Earl Jr., and Greg.
