As a student-athlete in the late 1970's, she was a member of the basketball and cheer squads for the Pioneers. She was on the first Lady Pioneer basketball in the AIAW, and provided the school with the first great moment in the program history. She was the key player in the first great comeback in Lady Pioneer history at the old Lilly Gymnasium; down ten points to West Virginia State in the second half, Glenville was led by Bailey who scored 10 of her 14 points in the second half, and topped the comeback off by hitting the game-winner in overtime…a 43-41 Glenville win! After college, she began her teaching and coaching career, leading local Gilmer County high school to historic heights with the Lady Titan girls track program. In 1983, she led her small squad to the Class AA State Championship at Charleston's Laidley Field…a monumental feat for the small school, as the in those days, Class A and Class AA were combined in the sport of track & field. She returned to the college level in the late 80's and made an immediate impact on the institution. She coached some stellar Glenville track teams, winning a pair of WVIAC Track titles with the program. She served as a long-time instructor on the faculty, and embarked on the development of a critical and vibrant Athletic Training that proved vital to Glenville's growing Athletic Department. Bailey eventually elevated to the position of Athletic Director, leading the department through a progressive eight-year tenure that included such facility upgrades as the Waco Center and the Sue Morris Complex. She fostered in the addition of several new sports, and enhanced the institution's Title IX profile on the collegiate sports landscape. Since GSU, Bailey has remained active in the sports world working for the US Anti-Doping Agency. She has traveled the world in this capacity, and worked several high-profile events.
