Stephen Taylor, a native of Walton, WV competed in football at GSC for four years and was a member of the 1958 WVIAC undefeated team. He was a two-year starter of special teams and a guard on the 1958 and 1959 offensive teams. Additionally he was Tri-Captain of the football team his senior year. Taylor holds a masters degree from Stetson University (1969) and earned his PhD from Florida State University (1973). He also completed post-doctoral studies at Carnegie Mellon University. Work Experience: High School teaching, coaching, and administration - 6 years; Chrysler Corporation - 2 years; Morehead State University- Associate Professor, 5 years, Full Professor, 18 years, Professor Emeritus upon retirement. While at MSU, he chaired, directed, or co-chaired eleven University accreditation or reaffirmation committees. Dr. Taylor served with the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, as well as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, as a team member for the accreditation of other colleges and universities in four different states. Taylor directed the review of the general education requirements program that resulted in significant alterations in the freshman and sophomore academic requirements. He served as chairman and presidential liaison for the President's Panel on removing MSU from sanctions by the AAUP. Dr. Taylor received the Kentucky Distinguished Educator award in 1987. He was appointed by two different Governors to state-wide committees on assessment and evaluation in secondary schools as well as college and universities. Administrative experiences through the years: Director of Testing and Evaluation, Director of Academic Support Services, Acting Dean of the College of Education, Acting Director of Graduate Studies as well as Research, Grants, and Contracts, Assistant to the President, Acting Vice President for Student Affairs, Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty. Steve is a volunteer consultant with the Clark County and Winchester, KY Planning and Zoning Boards and very active with the Fairfax Church of Christ in Winchester. Steve was honored at GSC's Alumni Banquet in 1990 as the college's Alumnus of the Year. He and his wife Carolyn reside in Winchester, KY. She is active with the Clark County Republican Club, a member of three local Women's Clubs including the professional Home Economist Club, and is also active in church activities at the Fairfax Church of Christ. They have one son, Stephen Taylor, Jr., a graduate of Princeton University and Venture Capitalist who manages the Taylor Fund as well as Taylor Asset Management with offices in Los Angeles and Chicago. An adopted daughter, Michelle Morris, lives with her husband Jay and their two children, Madison and Sabien, in Richmond, KY. |
