Name: Byron Brooks, Athlete
Byron Brooks, a native of Jeanette, PA, was a three time WVIAC All-Conference performer in 1982, 1983, and 1984. He became the Pioneers' All-Time leading rusher after just six games in the 1983 season. He was named First Team Kodak All-American in 1983 and Second Team Kodak All-American in 1984. Brooks was about breaking records at GSC (1) most rushes in one game with 42 in 1982; (2) most rushes in a season with 279 in 1982; and (3) most rushing yards in a season with 1418 in 1982, for a career total of 3481 rushing yards. Byron credits his late grandmother, Della Berry, who was always in the football stadium during his playing career at GSC, with being the most inspirational person in his life and his coach, Frank Vincent, with being his "main support system" at GSC. Byron is the head chef at Catering Unlimited in Charleston, a company serving cliental in the Tri-State area and many dignitaries in and around Charleston.
