Scotty Hamilton, son of West Virginia Great Scott Hamilton, excelled in football for the Glenville Pioneers. Hamilton was an All-Conference performer in 1970, 1972, and 1973, being named to the 1970 and 1972 first team WVIAC defensive team. In 1973, he was named the WVIAC's Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year. Also in 1973, he was honored as a Kodak All-American Linebacker. Lettering in football all four years, Hamilton played positions of safety, defensive halfback, and linebacker for legendary coach Bill Hanlin and ended his career as the school's leader in interceptions, a title that was held for three years. Scotty was a member of the 1973 National Runner-up football squad, which lost a heartbreaker National Championship to Northwestern Iowa, 10-3. The contest was played at Huntington's Fairfield Stadium. Upon graduation, Hamilton became Glenville State's first recruiter under Dean Clarence Mace and received GSC's Montrose award during Homecoming activities in the fall of 1974. Originally from Marietta, OH, Scotty spent his adult life in Duluth, GA. He died in 2010. Scotty is survived by his widow, Jan; their two daughters Amy and Andrea; and their two sons, Paul and Tommy.
